Kim Kern Signs Professional Contract to Play in Finland

RALEIGH – Kim Kern, a former NC State women's soccer standout at the goalkeeper position and assistant coach of the program from 2013-16, has recently stepped down from her position to pursue a professional career with Oulu Nice of the Finnish First Division.

"This is exciting for Kim," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "She's young, still has the ability to play, and has wanted to play professionally overseas for a while. Kim is a top goalkeeper who I believe can play at the highest level anywhere she wants."

Kern made 324 saves (third all-time) during her playing career (2008-11) at NC State. Her 1.29 career goals-against average and 15 shutouts rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the history of the program.

NC State recently added six signees and three early enrollees to its program. The Wolfpack will begin a four-game spring season on Saturday, March 19 against Wingate.
