RALEIGH, N.C. - For the first time in school history, the NC State wrestling team has been invited to compete in the NWCA National Duals Championship Series. The No. 4 Wolfpack (22-1) was selected to travel to No. 2 Iowa, and will face the Hawkeyes (16-0) on Monday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. (ET). There will be no TV coverage, but BTN Plus (pay wall) will offer a live stream.
"We are honored to have the opportunity to wrestle at Iowa," said head coach Pat Popolizio. "Once again, we get to face one of the top programs in the country that has a great tradition. We are battle-tested as a team, which has helped us define who we are.
"This past weekend showed what Pack wrestling is all about, by finding ways to win!"
NC State concluded its regular season yesterday with a thrilling 18-17 win over No. 5 Missouri on Senior Day. The Wolfpack sits at 22-1 on the year - leading the nation in wins, and set a new school record for most wins in a single season. NC State is also 7-1 this season versus ranked foes, including a perfect 2-0 against top-five opponents (at #4 Oklahoma State, 19-15 and vs. #5 Missouri, 18-17). NC State was the only school to finish the regular season with just one loss, and only two teams finished ahead of the Wolfpack and undefeated (Penn State and Iowa).
The Hawkeyes are one of two undefeated teams in the nation at a perfect 16-0, 9-0 in Big Ten action. Iowa has recorded six shutouts on the season, including each of their last two duals. The Hawkeyes have eight of their 10 starters ranked in the latest NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings, with seven in the top-10 and four in the top-five.
