Junior hit three home runs on opening weekend
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State softball junior Tyler Ross has been named the ACC Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
Â
The Wolfpack outfielder enjoyed a very successful start to the 2016 season, as she compiled a batting average of .467 for the weekend. She collected seven hits in 15 at-bats, highlighted by three home runs.
Â
In addition, Ross drove in eight runs and scored seven to be responsible for 11 of NC State's runs over the weekend. She had at least one hit in each of the Pack's five games.
Â
The 2015 All-ACC selection was also opportunistic on the basepaths, as she was a perfect 4-4 on stolen base attempts. A very patient hitter, Ross also drew four walks, including an intentional walk versus Coastal Carolina Sunday, to tally a .600 on-base percentage for the weekend.
Â
Â
Ross registered a 1.067 slugging percentage in the Wolfpack's opening five games and was solid defensively, seeing action in left field as well as center field, to record six putouts without an error.
Â
The Cameron, N.C., native collects the third ACC Player of the Week mention of her NC State career, as she garnered the award twice last season.
Â
North Carolina pitcher Kendra Lynch and Louisville pitcher Megan Hensley were named Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Â
NC State returns to action at home this weekend when it hosts the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge at Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack will play Nebraska in its first game of the weekend at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
