Historic Weekend Fuels Rise in the Polls

NEW ORLEANS – Both NC State track and field teams made big jumps in the USTFCCCA national polls, as released by the organization's office Monday afternoon. The NC State women's team moved up to No. 8 – the program's first top-10 ranking in school history, and the men cracked the rankings at No. 25.
The women's team entered the week ranked 19th and moved 11 spots, while the men's team was ranked 60th and skyrocketed up 35 spots in the polls.
The Wolfpack had a breakout weekend, earning eight individual national top-20 marks and two new school records.

Weekend Highlights:
Both Nicole Chavis(weight throw), Luis Vargas(men's 3,000m) and Wesley Frazier(women's 3,000m) hold the NCAA's top mark in their respective events.
Chavis extended her weight throw school record at the to 71'10.75" to re-claim the nation's top mark. Her throw is a 1'7" improvement on her personal best and is 10.25" ahead of the country's second-best mark.
Frazier ran at the Camel City Elite, setting the indoor 3k school record and nation's best time of 9:01.26(converted to 8:56.66). The race marked her first time racing in uniform for the Wolfpack.
Erika Kemp, who already holds the nation's second-best time in the 5,000m, added to her resume with the county's third-best 3,000m time. Kemp raced alongside Frazier and the two were the first collegiate athletes to cross the finish line.
Megan Moye, who raced in the elite mile race at Camel City recorded the third-fastest indoor mile in school history. Her mark of 4:41.08 ranks 17th in the nation.
Alexis Perry also added a national mark for the Pack on her season debut. The Durham, N.C., native recorded a 60m hurdles time of 6.28. The mark is currently tied for 15th in the nation.
On the men's side, Luis Vargas had the third-best 3,000m time in school history. After the conversion from a flat track to a banked track, the Elon-transfer's mark of 7:48.81 is ranked first in the NCAA.
Vargas entered the weekend with the fifth-best 5,000m time. In his two career races for the Pack, Vargas has two national top-five times.
Graham Crawford added a national-ranked mark in the mile. The mid-distance specialist ran a converted sub-4 mile of 3:59.67, which ranks eighth in the NCAA.
In field events, Jonathan Addison leaped to the country's fifth-best mark in the long jump with a mark of 25'11". The senior is aiming to make his fourth-straight NCAA Championships.
