Wolfpack Downs TSU in Overtime, 67-55

RALEIGH, N.C. –The NC State men's basketball team earned a 67-55 overtime win over Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon in the annual Heritage Game inside the newly-renovated Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack are now 7-2 on the season with the win, while Tennessee State falls to 7-2.
BeeJay Anya led the Pack, recording his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Anya also added seven blocked shots. Terry Henderson led the Pack in scoring with 21 points, while Dennis Smith, Jr. added 19 points and six assists.
The team played a tight first half with seven lead changes, as neither led by more than five points in the opening half. The Tigers entered halftime with a 30-28 lead after a basket in the closing seconds of the half.
Anya led the Pack with an energetic first half, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds.
TSU jumped on the Pack early in the second half, taking a 38-30 on a basket by Ken'Darrius Hamilton with 15:13 to go. The Pack defense stiffen from that point forward though as they held the Tigers without a point for over eight minutes as they went on an 11-0 run during the span to take the lead.
With the Pack trailing 50-48 with under a minute to play, Smith knocked down a running baseline jumper to tie the game at 50. On the other end, the Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year blocked a TSU shot to give NC State a chance to win in regulation. The Pack could never get a good look at a game-winning shot and the game went to overtime.
In overtime, NC State outscored TSU, 17-5 and closed the game with a 14-0 run over the final 2:57. After falling behind 55-53 in the extra frame, the Pack held the Tigers without a point for the final 3:46. Smith capped off the victory with a windmill dunk in the game's final seconds. Both Smith and Henderson scored seven points in the overtime period to pace the team.
