Wolfpack freshman tallied 18 kills last week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following two of her best performances this season, NC State volleyball's Jessica Kemp has been named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Â
Kemp becomes the second Wolfpack freshman to garner the conference's weekly honor, as classmate Grace Irvin collected the mention on Oct. 24.
Â
It is the fourth weekly accolade that NC State has claimed this season, as Julia Brown was selected as ACC Player of the Week twice in addition to the freshman of the week honors.
Â
Kemp was a vital piece of the Wolfpack's success last week, as she enjoyed strong offensive performances in both outings. She tallied six kills on 10 attempts versus Wake Forest and did not commit an attacking error to record a hitting percentage of .600.
Â
The Fort Mill, S.C., native swatted a career-best 12 kills in Saturday's 3-1 win against Duke. Kemp charted a .435 attacking percentage for that match on 23 swings.
Â
For the weekend, Kemp averaged 2.86 points per set, 2.57 kills per set and 0.57 blocks per set.
Â
NC State ended the season with a 20-12 overall record and a 13-7 mark in ACC play, which breaks the program record. Predicted to finish 12th in the conference by the league's head coaches, the Wolfpack ended the year in a tie for sixth place.
