Wolfpack Uses Ground and Pound Attack for 28-21 Road Win at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Behind a balanced offensive attack - 259 yards rushing and 233 yards passing - NC State became bowl eligible with a 28-21 road win at rival North Carolina on Friday afternoon. The Wolfpack (6-6, 3-5 ACC) jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter, and held off a late Tar Heels (8-4, 5-3 ACC) comeback attempt with a fourth down stop with 3:10 left.
NC State has now won its last two games at UNC, and four of the last five dating back to 2008.
The Pack ran the ball 53 times for 259 yards. RB Matthew Dayes went over 100 yards rushing for the eighth time this season with 104 yards, while Reggie Gallaspy II added 62 yards and back-up QB Jalan McClendon had 42.
WOLFPACK SPOTLIGHT DRIVE - 1st half
5 plays, 89 yards in 1:37 - Samuels to Louis 59 yard TD pass
After forcing a UNC punt on the game's first possession, NC State went 89 yards in only five plays for the game's first score. The drive culminated in a trick play, as Jaylen Samuels received a backwards pass, and then threw a 59-yard TD pass to wide open Stephen Louis. On the drive, three Wolfpack players completed a pass - combining to go 3-of-4 for 84 yards.
The TD was the Pack's first score on an opening drive since the Wake Forest contest.

14 plays, 85 yards in 6:30 - Samuels 4 yard TD run
NC State received the opening kick of the second half, after UNC failed on a surprise onside kick attempt, and the Pack went 85 yards in 14 plays and increased its lead to 28-7 midway through the third quarter. After throwing for a TD pass in the first half, Jaylen Samuel ran for a score, capping a drive that took 6:30 with a four-yard TD rush - his sixth of the season.
