Evans Sisters Sign NLI to Join NC State Volleyball Program

First sisters to sign with the program since 1994
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith and staff are excited to announce the signing of the Evans sisters, Jasmine and Melissa, to the program for the 2017 season.

"Jasmine and Melissa Evans were the first athletes to commit to NC State after I arrived on campus in January," said Hampton-Keith. "We couldn't be more thrilled to begin this new era of NC State volleyball with both of them as our first recruits who will provide a solid foundation upon which the future of this program can be built.

"I was familiar with both athletes prior to coming here so it didn't take long for us to come to the conclusion that this would be a great fit for everyone!"

The Evans are the first sisters to sign with NC State since twins Jennifer and Nicole Peterson joined the program in 1994. Hailing from Lone Tree, Colo., Jasmine is a 6'1" outside hitter, while younger sister Melissa is a 6'1" opposite hitter.

Jasmine concluded a stellar senior season at Highlands Ranch High School in 2015, earning Colorado All-State honors in addition to MaxPreps All-Colorado Honorable Mention accolades. She was a first team all-conference selection and voted the league's most valuable player as a senior, finishing the year with 378 kills.

As a junior, Jasmine was a first team all-conference honoree and ended the season fifth in the league in kills and aces. The prep standout was a second team all-league selection as a sophomore and was named to the Under Armour Phenom List in 2014 and 2013.

Additionally, she has made her presence felt with the Front Range Volleyball Club earning numerous all-tournament team honors and has competed with the USA Volleyball High Performance teams.

"Jasmine brings a very high volleyball IQ and a level of experience that will serve this team in a great way and impact our gym immediately. Her versatility and ability to contribute in many ways will make her an invaluable asset to this program."

Younger sister Melissa has led Highlands Ranch High School to the Colorado State Championship, which will be held Saturday afternoon. She has been a four-year starter with the program and has swatted 462 kills in 2016.

In 2015, she was a second team all-state selection after finishing the season with 439 kills to also claim first team all-conference and all-tournament team honors. Melissa was a first team all-league honoree as a sophomore and tabbed to the second team as a freshman.

"Melissa is coming off of a stellar high school and club campaign where she has become accustomed to leading in all aspects of the game for her teams. She is a high level volleyball player who will undoubtedly continue to shape the direction this program is heading. Â
