NC State improves 66 spots from final RPI of 2015
NCAA RPI
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team has jumped 66 spots in the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) from its final mark in 2015 to the first listing of the 2016 season, under the leadership of first-year head coach Linda Hampton-Keith and her staff. The Wolfpack is slotted No. 88 in the first RPI, after finishing last year at 154.
Â
"We're really happy with the jump in the NCAA RPI from the end of last season to where we are now," said Hampton-Keith. "It's a good starting point and we're proud of the work that we've done so far, but we know that there's an incredible amount of work still to be done."
Â
NC State's mark in the RPI is the sixth best among programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), behind UNC-Chapel Hill (8), Florida State (26), Pittsburgh (28), Georgia Tech (32) and Notre Dame (35).
Â
"The first RPI isn't a reflection of where you're going to end the season, it's just a benchmark of where you are now. We see it, acknowledge it and then get back to work with the motivation to make sure that we're doing everything we can to be in a good spot to earn a postseason berth."
Â
The Wolfpack's best win of the season was a 3-1 victory against Boise State, a team listed at No. 41 in the poll that won 23 matches a season ago, as a neutral site contest at the TCU Invitational. NC State also earned a strong win against SMU at home, which is ranked No. 53 in the RPI.
Â
NC State returns to action Friday, Oct. 7, when the Miami Hurricanes visit Reynolds Coliseum. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
