RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's soccer team will host Pittsburgh Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium in the ACC regular season finale. The Pack will honor its two seniors – Rachel Cox and Gladys Loyas – in a pre-match senior-day ceremony at 6:45 p.m.
NC State enters the match with a 9-7-1 (3-5-1 ACC) record, while Pitt comes into the match with a 2-14-1 (1-8-0 ACC) record. The teams are tied in the overall series with the last Wolfpack win coming from a 1-0 victory at Pitt in 2013.
A Win Would Be:
The 10th win of the year – most since 2011
The fourth ACC win of the year – most since 1995 and only the second time in program history
A guaranteed spot in the ACC Championships – marking its first appearance since 2006
The fifth home win of the year
Scouting Pitt:
Pitt enters the match with one win in its last five matches and is closing out a tough final stretch. Seven of the last eight Panthers' opponents have all been in the top-eight in the conference standings. The Panthers are averaging 0.46 goals per match while giving up 2.29 goals per match.
Alex Wright leads Pitt with six points from three goals. Four other Panthers have tallied goals this season, while Sarah Krause has dished out two assists to lead the team.
Approaching Records:
NC State is close to clinching its best ever RPI since the NCAA began archiving the stat for women's soccer in 2000. The Pack's current RPI of 32 would set the record for the team, which was previously set in 2011 at 41. NC State's RPI has been within the top 35 for most of the season, including a season-high rating of 20th.
Toughest in the Conference:
The Pack is coming off the toughest four games that any team in the ACC has faced in conference play this season. NC State was handed four consecutive matches against top-five conference opponents, No. 9 Duke, No. 9 FSU, No. 8 Virginia and No. 17 Clemson.
Pack in the Rankings:
NC State is receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll, checking in at 37th in the latest poll and 32nd in the current RPI. In the ACC standings, the Wolfpack sits in eighth place and has the potential to clinch an ACC Championships berth for the first time in 10 years.
Goal Scoring Leader:
Tziarra King broke through last weekend to score her sixth and seventh goals of the year. The freshman tallied goals against No. 8 Virginia and No. 17 Clemson to take the team lead in goals and points with seven and 15, respectively. Before the weekend, King was tied with Jackie Stengel, Kia Rankin and Ricarda Walking with 11 points.
Last Time Out:
NC State nearly earned a big result Sunday afternoon at No. 17 Clemson, but an unfortunate penalty call helped the Tigers to a 2-1 win.
NC State dominated time on the ball and was more creative going forward for much of the game. The teams tied each other with nine shots, while the Pack placed four shots on goal, compared to just three from Clemson. A physical Clemson team fouled the Pack 18 times and earned four yellow cards.
