Wolfpack Softball Runs Past Campbell in Fall Game, 21-2

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team collected 20 hits en route to a 21-2 victory against the Campbell Camels Thursday night at Dail Stadium. The teams agreed prior to the contest to play 10 innings in the game, as they are allowed to do during the fall season.
The Wolfpack moves to 3-0 on the fall season, after sweeping a doubleheader with Elon last week.
Game Notes
- NC State struck first in the contest with four runs in the bottom of the first and continued to add to its lead from there.
- The Wolfpack tacked on four runs in the second, five in the fifth, sixth in the seventh and two in the ninth to reach 21 runs.
- Senior Tyler Ross turned in a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the plate to lead NCSU, highlighted by a grand slam, five runs batted in (RBI) and four runs scored.
- Brittany Nimmo, a sophomore from Springfield, Mo., was 3-for-6 with four RBI.
- Sophomore Cheyenne Balzer also notched a three-hit game, going 3-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored.
- Senior catcher/first baseman Molly Hutchison also homered in the game to finish the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Junior Macauley Prickett and freshman Jade Caraway each had two hits, while Haley Finn, Molly Martin and Jessica Moore had one hit apiece.
In the Circle
- Nimmo started the game in the circle and pitched four innings, striking out two batters while allowing one earned run. She pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning with zero outs.
- Harli Hubbard took over for her and did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings of relief to go along with two strikeouts.
- Freshman Peyton Silverman came on in the seventh and finished the contest, fanning six batters while allowing just four hits.
Up Next
NC State will conclude its fall season Friday evening when the squad travels to East Carolina for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at ECU Softball Stadium.
