Mumma earned a third-place finish on the three-meter dive
ATHENS, Ga.- Spotlighted by Rachel Mumma's third-place performance in the three-meter competition, the NC State diving team completed its second day of competition on Monday at the Georgia Diving Invitational, hosted by Georgia inside Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The Wolfpack women competed on the three-meter board, while Stewart Spanbauer represented the Pack in the men's one-meter event.Â
Radman's Recap
"Today we had a very nice day on the boards. Obviously we can always get better, but once again Rachel stepped up and did what she needed to do," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "She led most of the way in the prelims but still made it safely into the finals. She held her own in the finals going into the last round and managed to finish well."
"The shootout tonight was another phenomenal event for Rachel. There was a lot of strategy, and despite feeling tired and worn out she came out on top which gave her a lot of confidence," Radman added. "Our freshmen got to try out some new dives today- this meet is a great time to try new things in preparation for ACCs. Today wasn't as nerve wrecking as yesterday was, but it's still a new experience for all of them being at a meet with so many strong divers competing."
"Additionally, I would like to thank everyone back in Raleigh that has followed us in Georgia, including our support staff and athletic department that has helped to publicize our performance this week."
Wolfpack Results
Mumma had another #STATEment showing on Monday in Athens. She finished third in the three-meter prelims with a score of 310.80 to advance to the finals. In the finals she placed third again with a mark of 299.50.Â
Her performance marks two top-three finishes on the meet, and her outing on the three-meter springboard earned her an invite to another shootout that took place Monday evening. She won the second shootout of the meet, giving her two wins in the unique competition that is a game of elimination.
Additionally in the women's three-meter dive, Carlie Perkins finished 36th after tabbing a mark of 223.70, while Bailey Revels and Gabi McDermott finished 50th and 52nd with scores of 163.75 and 155.90, respectively.
In the men's one-meter dive, Spanbauer finished 28th in the overall standings with a mark of 190.50.
