Pack Set for Elon Sunday, The Citadel Monday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 40th-ranked NC State men's tennis team is set for three home matches over its opening weekend. The Wolfpack will face Elon Sunday at 10 a.m. before hosting The Citadel in a doubleheader Monday. NC State will play matches against The Citadel at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday. All three matches will be played at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

A Successful Fall:
NC State begins its spring campaign after a successful fall season in which the team competed in ITF and ITA play. Junior Nick Horton and senior Simon Norenius opened the year on the ITF circuit. As a doubles team, the duo advanced to the second round of the main draw at the Cary Tennis Championships.

Horton continued his good form in singles play, advancing to the final qualifying round in the Mansfield Futures and the main draw of the Cary Tennis Championships.

The Pack also levied success at the ITA level, notching 33 wins during the fall season. The team won the ITA Carolina Regional Doubles Title for the second year in a row.

Shoti Meparidze led the Pack with a team-high 10 wins, while Horton (6-2) and Norenius (7-2) both had winning records. Michael Ogden and Chris Mikrovas made their Wolfpack debuts, playing in several tournaments throughout the fall.

Fresh Faces:
After the departure of Austin Powell, Beck Bond and Robbie Mudge, the team reloaded on talent with the addition of four student-athletes. Chris Mikrovas and Georgiy Malyshev joined the program in the fall.

Twins Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic joined the program at the start of the spring semester. The newly minted Wolfpackers are members of Montenegro's Davis Cup team and have experience on the ITF circuit.

Scouting the Competition:
NC State will face a few familiar opponents from the fall season when its squares of against Elon. Members of the Wolfpack played matches against Chris Humphreys and Robert Lindgren throughout the fall. Humphries recently had a strong showing at the Pack's fall tournament, advancing to the final round of both his singles and doubles flights.

Elon dropped its first match of the year to Duke, falling 6-1 in its season opener.

NC State has won its last 11 season openers and has never lost to Elon, holding a 6-0 series record with the last win coming in 2013.

Monday's opponent, The Citadel enters the 2016 spring season with 10 underclassmen including seven freshmen. The Bulldogs suffered a pair of 7-0 losses to Auburn in their season opener on Friday.

NC State holds a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series with the last win coming 2007.
