Sophomore Caitlyn Ford records a career best in air rifle
LEXINGTON, Va. – The NC State rifle team opened the 2015-16 season with a strong performance at the first South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match to claim first place at the competition held in Kilboure Hall on VMI's campus.
The Wolfpack finished first out of six teams to move to 6-0 on the year, while also claiming four victories against SEARC foes (4-0). The Pack fired a team score of 4593 to finish first, while North Georgia was second at 4505 and VMI was third with a 4442.
Miller's Minute
Opening statement…
"I think we performed pretty well for our first match," said head coach Keith Miller. "Our team score was okay, but given a number of freshmen on the team and a late start to smallbore training, it's a reasonable place to be."
On the team's strong performance in air rifle…
"Our air rifle score was really good, 2332, only being four points off our school record."
On the team's smallbore performance…
"Smallbore held us back a little today, as our 2261 in that event was a little lower than we hoped it would be. We knew there would be some rough spots in smallbore, so that's acceptable at this point."
