RALEIGH, N.C. – On Friday, four members of the NC State men's tennis team will head to Cary, N.C., to take part in the Duke James Bonk Invite. Nick Horton, Shoti Meparidze, Simon Norenius and Michael Ogden will open the fall tournament season for the Wolfpack.
Weekend Look Ahead:
NC State begins play Friday at 8 a.m. with Odgen and Meparidize competing in the doubles black bracket. This marks Ogden's collegiate debut and the first time that the duo has played together. They will face the senior duo of Stuart DePaolo and Chad Hoskins from North Carolina.
Norenius and Horton will also open doubles play at 8 a.m., facing off against Louisville's Sean Donohue and Alex Gornet.
Following doubles, Norenius will open his senior season at 12:30 p.m. against ODU's Jacob Nicolussi in the singles black bracket. Ogden and Meparidze will transition to singles play in the blue bracket while Horton will represent the Pack in the singles white bracket.
Match Format:
Winners of each singles and doubles matches will continue to advance into the tournament. However, the players that don't advance past the first round will have the opportunity to play in the consolation bracket.
What's on the line?
With this tournament being one of the first actions of the season, players are looking to gain experience with each competing in their first collegiate matches of the fall. This tournament will also be an early test for each player, as they will be competing against nationally ranked players.
Last Time Out:
Four Wolfpackers saw action as amateurs at the Cary Tennis Championships earlier in the week. Horton played his way into the singles main draw while, Horton and Norenius advanced into the second round of the doubles main draw.
