Horton fell to John-Patrick Smith, while several athletes competed against local competition
Cary, N.C. – After advancing through the singles qualifying at the Cary Tennis Championships, Nick Horton competed in the singles main draw on Tuesday afternoon.
Main Draw:
Horton dropped a hard fought match to the ATP's 111th ranked John-Patrick Smith, 6-1, 6-3. The two Australians traded points early in the first set before Smith pulled away.
The junior opened the second set by winning the first game. He continued his strong start, making his way to break point on multiple occasions and taking the lead in the match on two different occasions.
Horton made his way to break point again with the set tied at, 3-3, but was unable to capitalize, as Smith took the overall match.
After several successful ITF tournaments during the summer, Horton has now advanced to the main draw of tournaments in four different countries, France, Spain, Germany and the United States.
University Day Doubles:

In addition to the competition, several of NC State's players participated in a social doubles round robin format with tennis players from Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina, as well as local armatures. Ian Dempster, Chris Mirkrovas, Simon Norenius and Michael Ogden all represented the Pack at University Day.
On Deck:
Horton and Norenius will be back in action at the Cary Tennis Championships. The duo will compete in the double's main draw against Alessandro Beta and Tennys Sandgren. They will be the third match of the day at the Grandstand Court.
