Men’s Tennis Set for University Day at Cary Tennis Championships

Wolfpack players will face off against competition from North Carolina and Duke
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team will continue action at the Cary Tennis Championships on Tuesday. Nick Horton advanced through qualifying into the singles main draw, while the rest of the Wolfpack will continue in doubles action and round robin singles.
University Day:
University Day begins at 12 p.m. and will feature competition among the triangle ACC schools stretching until 10 p.m. There will be a round robin singles format during the day, while a local college star will take on a professional in the night session.
Sunday and Monday Wrap Up:
Shoti Meparidze, Georgiy Malyshev, Ian Dempster, and Simon Norenius all competed in qualifying action, while Horton earned two wins in the qualifiers to advance to the main draw.
Horton defeated North Carolina's Brett Clark, 7-6 (2), 6-4, on Sunday, and rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Andrew Carter, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday.
Recent graduate Robbie Mudge saw action in the main singles draw, dropping a match to Chase Buchanan, 6-4, 6-1.
On Deck:
On Tuesday, Horton will play in his first match of the main draw against fellow Australian John-Patrick Smith. The former University of Tennessee star is currently ranked 111th in ATP rankings and the overall No. 3 seed in the tournament. He recently competed at the U.S. Open.
Horton is coming off a successful summer, winning matches in ITF Futures in Spain, France and Germany.
In addition to main draw singles action, the Pack will square off in the doubles main draw and singles matches against North Carolina and Duke during University Day.
