Ryan Hill Advances to Finals at IAAF World Championships

Hill will race in the 5,000m final on Saturday morning

BEIJING – Former NC State distance standout Ryan Hill finished sixth overall and qualified for Saturday's final in the 5,000m at the 2015 IAAF World Championships. Hill used a strong kick down the home stretch to qualify on time and cross the finish line in 13:19.67.

Hill raced in the fastest heat of the night with two-time Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah, 5,000m world leader Yomif Kejelcha and fellow American Galen Rupp. All three will join Hill in the final. Kejelcha and Farah took the top-two spots to qualify automatically, while Rupp finished eighth in the heat and qualified by time.

Throughout the first 4,000m, the Hickory, N.C., native switched between 13th and 14th place with an average split time of 2:42.50. In the final 1000m, Hill passed seven runners and posted a split of 2:30.06.

The final is slated for Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 a.m. EST. Hill finished 10th overall in the 5,000m at the 2013 IAAF World Championships.
