SAN DIEGO – The NC State women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead late in the first half before ultimately falling 2-1 in the 2015 season opener at San Diego.

Assist – Mackenzie Graybill (1st season, 2nd career)
Entering the match as a 27th-minute substitute for the first time since an injury suffered August 2014 against Georgetown, Stengel gave the Pack a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute on an impressive effort. The redshirt sophomore received a pass from teammate Mackenzie Graybill near the corner of the 18-yard box, held off three defenders, and beat the goalkeeper to the far post with her low strike. The goal was the 10th of her career.
Walker's first goal for San Diego was a header in the 50th minute from an assist by Rachel Conners. Her second tally came in the 56th when Jacquelin Altschuld capitalized on a loose ball in NC State's penalty area, finding Walker with a pass which was ultimately finished high and inside the far post from 12 yards out.
The Wolfpack nearly equalized in the 86th minute when Caroline Gentry's shot towards the near post spilled to the top of the six-yard box. Freshman Crystal Cordova rushed forward but was a half second late to attempt a shot from very close range.
NC State returns to action at the 2015 Torero Classic on Sunday afternoon when it takes on No. 10 Pepperdine. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
