FORMER WOLFPACKER WINS FIFA WORLD CUP
On July 5 in Vancouver, a former Wolfpacker became a FIFA World Cup champion. Jill Ellis, current head coach of the United States women's national team, was a Wolfpack graduate assistant for the program's 1988 and 1989 seasons. She began her coaching career at NC State and helped lead head coach Larry Gross' sides to a combined record of 34-10-5, two NCAA Tournament appearances, one appearance in the NCAA championship match, and an Atlantic Coast Conference title.
CAPTAINS CHOSEN FOR 2015 SEASON
Redshirt sophomore Jackie Stengel and senior Jenna Kalwa have been selected as captains for the 2015 season, NC State women's soccer head coach Tim Santoro announced in May.
Stengel scored nine goals as a freshman in 2013, earning All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team honors before redshirting her sophomore (2014) season due to a knee injury. Kalwa, a transfer student-athlete from Penn State, started all 19 matches last season for the Pack, scoring one goal and distributing two assists.
JASER SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT IN GERMANY
In April, NC State rising sophomore defender Franziska Jaser signed a professional contract to play soccer in Germany with SC Freiburg of the Women's Bundesliga.
A member of the U20 World Cup-winning German side in August of 2014, Jaser joined NC State prior to last season's Aug. 29 match at Georgetown and started 17 straight contests for the Wolfpack. She tied for the team lead with three assists on the season and went the full 90 minutes (and occasional extra time) on 14 occasions throughout the year.
INJURY BUG IN 2014
The Wolfpack did not play a single match last season (2014) with its entire starting lineup. At one point or another throughout the year, injuries limited the time of nine different student-athletes.
