Former Wolfpacker Coaches U.S. Women to 2015 FIFA World Cup Crown

VANCOUVER – Thanks to Sunday's 5-2 victory over Japan in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Final at BC Place, an NC State Wolfpacker is now a World Cup champion. Jill Ellis, head coach of the United States Women's National Team (USWNT), began her coaching career in 1988 at NC State.
Following a strong career as a player at William and Mary from 1984-87, during which she earned third team All-American honors, Ellis began her coaching career as a graduate assist at NC State in 1988. She would remain with the Wolfpack through the 1989 season, helping the squad claim one ACC championship (1988), a spot in the NCAA Championship game (1988), two NCAA appearances, and 34-10-5 record while serving under then head coach Larry Gross.
On May 16, 2014, Ellis was named the eighth head coach in USWNT history by U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati. Prior to this appointment, she had served as an assistant coach on the 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold medal-winning teams and held down the role of interim head coach on two separate occasions.
