RALEIGH -- Franziska Jaser of the NC State women's soccer team has signed a professional contract with a club in one of the top women's leagues in the world. The native of Burgau, Germany, will be joining SC Freiburg of the Women's Bundesliga ahead of the 2015-16 season.
A member of the U20 World Cup-winning German side in August of 2014, Jaser joined NC State prior to the Aug. 29 match at Georgetown and started 17 straight contests for the Wolfpack. She tied for the team lead with three assists on the season and went the full 90 minutes (and occasional extra time) on 14 occasions throughout the year.
Jaser is also a member of the Germany team which started UEFA (European) qualifying this month for the 2016 U20 FIFA World Cup and captained her side in a match recently against Italy.
"I'm happy for Franziska," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "We hate to see her go but this decision is something we knew was always a possibility and we'll continue to follow her progress. She played a lot of soccer over the last eight months and developed her game by seeing another style of play, playing a different position, and getting a lot of minutes in our matches."
The Women's Bundesliga (Frauen-Bundesliga) features 12 clubs and is one of the top women's leagues in the world. The league has dominated UEFA Women's Champions League play, as its clubs have won eight titles and earned four runner-up finishes in 13 years.
As of April 21, SC Freiburg currently sits seventh in the Bundesliga standings with 22 points through 20 matches. NC State recently completed its spring season, posting a 3-2-1 record in six matches.
The Wolfpack will begin the fall 2015 season with a home exhibition against South Carolina on Aug. 14 before officially beginning the regular season at San Diego on Aug. 21.
