Athletes to Watch at Day Two of NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The NC State track and field team is looking to continue its strong start at the NCAA East Preliminary. After sending three athletes to the finals and qualifying two more for the quarterfinals on the first day of competiton, several more NC State athletes are looking to book their spot in Eugene on Friday.
Discus:
Tremanisha Taylor, Nicole Chavis and SeQuoia Watkins are all competing in the discus. Watkins leads the group with the 16th seed, while Taylor and Chavis follow with the 22nd and 43rd seeds, respectively.
Watkins is aiming to repeat last year's success. During the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary, She took sixth with a new school record throw of 180'4.00". Her throw qualified her for the NCAA Championships where she went on to win All-America honors.
Taylor and Chavis are also aiming for high marks. Both have seen post-season success during the 2015 calendar year. Taylor finished eighth and booked her spot at the NCAA Championships in yesterday's shot put, while Chavis earned All-America honors in the women's weight throw at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Men's High Jump:
Jonathan Addison is searching for his second qualifying mark of the weekend. Yesterday the junior took second in the long jump to book his place at the NCAA Championships.
The Raleigh, N.C., native enters the high jump with 13th-highest seed of 6'11.75". Addison has already seen post-season success in the high jump, winning silver at the ACC Championships just two weeks ago.
Women's Long Jump:
Alexis Perry enters the long jump as the competition's 10th seed with a mark of 20'10.50". She also holds the nation's 14th-highest mark in the long jump.
She is competing in the fourth and final flight, as she aims to make her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In March, Perry reached the NCAA Indoor Championships, and took home second-team All-America honors.
100m Hurdles:
Perry will also compete in the 100m hurdles. She holds the 12th-best mark in the region and 21st-best mark in the nation. The Durham, N.C. native flew through the hurdles at the Raleigh Relays to reach her season-best time of 13.17.
200m:
Paisley Simmons will compete in her second event of the meet on Friday. The High Point, N.C., native enters with the 28th seed of 23.43.
She began her post-season with a pair of fourth-place finishes at the ACC Championships, and competed in yesterday's 100m dash at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
800m:
Kenyetta Iyevbele has a chance to book her spot in the national competition of the 800m race. Iyevbele dominated her heat on Friday to advance to quarterfinals. The field will be trimmed from 24 to 12 in today's race. Iyevbele has qualified for the NCAA Championships one other time, which resulted in All-America honors for the Charlotte, N.C., native.
