BRADENTON, Fla. - Rachael Taylor and Cecily Overbey are the top players for the NC State women's golf team after 36 holes of action at the NCAA Championship.
Taylor completed the first round, played over a span of 22 hours, with a team-best 77, while Overbey led the Wolfpack in Saturday's second round with a round of 79.
The Pack stands 23rd in the 24-team field, leading California by one shot. USC, Duke, Tennessee and Baylor are the top four teams in the standings, respectively.
Traditionally, NC State has made a habit of posting its best scores and climbing the standings in the final round. That happened at last year's championship in Tulsa, when the Wolfpack shot a school-record 280 in the third round (of four). At the NCAA Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole, the Wolfpack jumped from sixth to third with a 291 on the third and final day.
The Wolfpack is scheduled to tee off the third round of the national tournament Sunday, May 24 at 8:36 a.m. from the 10th hole. That, however, could change due to play stoppage at the end of Saturday's round. The top eight teams in the standings after Sunday advance to match play.
