For the third time in school history, the NC State women's golf team is off to the national championship tournament.
The Wolfpack enter the national tournament, which is hosted by USF at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., after placing third at the NCAA Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The top six teams from each of the four regional sites advanced, and the Wolfpack claimed its spot in the championship on the final day. After 36 holes and heading into the final round, NC State was tied with Ohio State for sixth place and a berth in the championship. The Pack then surged past the Buckeyes and climbed the leaderboard to third place, just two shots behind Northwestern for second place.
Rachael Taylor enjoyed one of her best collegiate tournaments, tying for fifth place at the regional and finishing second overall with 14 birdies. She shot a career-best 3-under 69 on the first day and finished with an even 72 in the final round. Seniors Vivian Tsui and Lindsay McGetrick were each in the top 30 in the field. Tsui shot a 1-under 71 on the final day, her best round since the Cougar Classic last September.
NC STATE GOLF STATISTICS AND NOTES
This year's championship features a format change. All 24 teams and 12 individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play, and then the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the championship.
