NC State baseball clawed back from a four-run deficit to tie No. 2 Louisville in the eighth on Bubby Riley's RBI single, but a three-run ninth helped the Cardinals escape with an 8-5 victory Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (31-20, 15-14 ACC) finishes the regular season winners in 10 of its last 12, and six of its last nine in conference play. State's win over Louisville (42-14, 25-5) on Friday pushed the Pack through the play-in round of the ACC Tournament to pool play, thanks to a finish among the conference's top six teams.

Riley contributed the Wolfpack's only multi-hit outing of the day, a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Joe Dunand contributed his seventh homer of the year in a 1-for-3 day with two runs and two RBIs. Andrew Knizner provided the other bomb, a solo shot in the bottom first, his fifth of the season. Preston Palmeiro and Ryne Willard each scored once with one hit. Jake Fincher led off the ninth with a single.

Wolfpack starter Curt Britt left after 2 2/3, hampered by two errors to extend that inning. Britt allowed three unearned runs on one hit and three walks, striking out three. Johnny Piedmonte gave up two earned over the next 1 1/3.

Jon Olczak held down the fort while State recouped its four-run deficit, delivering four innings of shutout ball, limiting the Cards to two hits and two walks with four punchouts. Tommy DeJuneas (2-3) ended up with the loss after three unearned in the ninth. Will Gilbert faced four with two strikeouts to finish the game.
