GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After recording four shutout wins and becoming the program's first 100-game winner, Emily Weiman of the NC State softball team has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week announced Monday by the conference office.
The senior pitched in four games last week, earning the win in all four of those contests. For the week, she pitched 23 innings, struck out 30 batters, allowed just eight hits and did not allow an earned or unearned run.
She started the week with a dominating performance at Radford to shut out the Highlanders in a game shortened to five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. She pitched all five innings and retired the first nine batters she faced en route to collecting six strikeouts.
In her next outing of the week against NC Central, the Pasadena, Md., native threw four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn the 100th win of her career and become the first pitcher in Wolfpack history to reach the milestone.
Weiman had arguably two of her best performances of her career on Sunday, as she shut down the Virginia Tech offense to register a pair of complete game shutout wins. She gave up just four hits and struck out 11 Hokie batters in game one, highlighted by striking out the side in the second and third inning with three called strikeouts in the third.
She retired 11 consecutive batters in game one, spanning from the first to the fourth inning. The senior hurler had at least one strikeout in every inning, with the exception of the fourth when she induced three groundouts.
In the second game of Sunday's twin bill, Weiman allowed a single to the second batter of the game and then proceeded to retire 20 consecutive batters to end the contest, not allowing another base runner. More impressively, she did not allow another ball to be hit out of the infield after the third inning, as the remainder of the outs were strikeouts or groundouts.
The accolade comes as the sixth of her career and first of the 2015 season.
NC State takes on Virginia Tech in the series finale at 7 p.m. Monday night at Tech Softball Park. The contest will air live on ESPNU.
