RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State track and field team returns to action with the Duke Invitational slated for Friday and Saturday. This marks the opening meet at Duke's new Morris and Williams Track and Field Stadium. A large portion of the Wolfpack will compete at the event, facing off against several regional teams.
The Competition:
State will go against UNC-CH and Duke for the third time this season. The Pack opened the season at the Carolina Relays and groups from both triangle foes competed at the Raleigh Relays.
In addition, NC State will also compete against fellow triangle-opponent, NCCU. Clemson and Liberty are also making the trip to Durham for the event.
Pack in the Polls:
After debuting in the preseason USATFCCCA outdoor track rankings at No. 24, the NC State women's team has moved up to 19th place in the first regular season poll after strong performances from all parts of the team.
Pack in Competition:
The hammer throw will be the debut event for the facility. Six Wolfpack throwers will make the trip to Durham for the meet's Friday event. The rest of the competition will take place on Saturday following an opening ceremony.
SeQuoia Watkins, Nicole Chavis and Tremanisha Taylor are all competing in the discus on Saturday. This meet marks the first time since the 2014 outdoor season that all three of the Pack's All-American throwers are competing in the same event.
The Pack's male throwers, multi-event specialist Grant Rivers and the female jumpers will also compete in the field events.
A mixture of sprinters, hurdlers and mid-distances runners will compete on the track.
Megan Rempel will make her outdoor season debut in the mile, while Olivia Enright and Bakri Abushouk will look to grab ACC qualifying marks in the steeplechase. The Pack will send a host of runners for the 800m races, while Laura Hoer will run in the 5,000m.
The majority of the men's sprinters will compete in both short and long sprints, while the men's hurdlers will continue to chase ACC qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles on Saturday.
Last Time Out:
Last week State split into groups to compete in meets across the country. A group of throwers, sprinters and jumpers recorded season-high marks at the Florida Relays and VertKlasse Meeting, and Joanna Thompson and Erika Kemp ran to top-10 national marks in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational.
