OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Emily Weiman of the NC State softball team has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball, as announced by the organization.
The senior from Pasadena, Md., has enjoyed a phenomenal career at NC State and has earned numerous accolades. She is a two-time first team All-ACC selection and also claimed the ACC Pitcher of the Year award in 2013 - the first Wolfpack player to claim the honor in program history. In addition, Weiman earned 2013 ACC Championship MVP honors after leading NC State to the 2013 ACC Championship crown.
In the classroom, she is a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection and has been named to the ACC Honor Roll in each of her three years. She currently has a 3.77 grade point average (GPA) as a sport management major and was tabbed as one of the 2015 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients last month.
Weiman and Florida State pitcher Lacey Waldrop represent the ACC on the list of 30 candidates from around the NCAA.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2015 Women's College World Series.
