CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wolfpack went on the road needing a win, and got it. NC State used a big second half to defeat Clemson 66-61 on Tuesday night.
Ralston Turner led NC State with 23 points, highlighted by a 12-for-15 effort at the free throw line. Turner also pulled down eight rebounds, the most since he's played for State. NCSU (18-12, 9-8) ripped off a 19-1 run halfway through the second half, clamping down on defense and pulling away from the Tigers (16-13, 8-9).
Cat Barber added 16 points and Abdul-Malik Abu pulled down 10 rebounds. Clemson's Gabe Devoe came in at the end of the game to tally a team-high 18 points in just six minutes of floor time.
Clemson led 33-32 at the 13:04 mark when NC State completely took over the game. The Wolfpack stymied the Tigers into an 0-for-15 shooting stretch to take a 49-33 lead with 3:57 on the clock.
NC State's road win had major postseason implications, not just for seeding in the upcoming ACC Tournament. It gave the Wolfpack another conference road win (its fifth of the season) at a time when each game is critical.
The win clinched at least a .500 record in the ACC and a shot at a winning conference mark heading into this weekend. NC State closes the regular season Saturday, March 7 vs. Syracuse at noon. Saturday's game will be on CBS.
