After being on the road for the last five games, the NC State baseball team returned home and bounced back to down UNC Greensboro 8-3 at Doak Field at Dail Park on Wednesday night.
The Wolfpack (11-8) drew a season-high 10 walks against the Spartans (7-11), as State improves to an impressive 8-1 record at Doak Field.
Jake Fincher led the Wolfpack offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Brock Deathrage and Tommy DeJuneas also contributed two hits a piece for the Pack. Second baseman Logan Ratledge reached base in all five of his at bats, drawing three walks.
Joe O'Donnell (1-0) relieved starter Brad Stone to earn his first win of the season. The righthander threw 2 2/3 innings while allowing one run on two hits and striking out one batter.
Stone ended up with the no decision after allowing two runs on two hits, and striking out three, in three and a third innings of work. Will Gilbert held UNCG scoreless in his two innings of relief, while Jon Olczak came in to close out the ninth, striking out the first two Spartan batters he faced before inducing a grounder to first to end the game.
The Pack pounced on the Spartans early scoring two runs in the second inning, after Joel McKeithan smacked an RBI-single into center field for NC State's first score of the night. McKeithan tied his career high of three RBIs, set during his time at Vanderbilt. State proceeded to score in each of the next two innings to go up 5-2 heading into the fifth.
The Wolfpack added three insurance runs in the eighth to ensure the victory.
