RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team will begin an 11-game road stretch on Wednesday when it makes the short trip over to UNCG. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 14-9 record on the season, while the Spartans are 12-7 in 2015.
NC State and UNCG have met 13 times on the softball field with the Pack holding an 11-2 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last played each other in 2011 when the Wolfpack swept a doubleheader at Dail Stadium.
The Pack last traveled to UNCG on March 25, 2010, when it split a twin bill, winning game one 10-0 and dropping the second game, 5-1.
Last Time Out
The Wolfpack hosted the NC State Hyatt Place Invitational over the weekend, posting a 3-2 mark in five games played. State defeated Fordham, 5-0, in its most recent outing of the season.
Gimme Five
NC State is a perfect 10-0 this season when scoring at least five runs in a game. In contrast, the Wolfpack is just 4-9 when scoring fewer than five runs.
No Coming Back
When the Wolfpack is leading after the third inning, the squad has an unblemished 12-0 mark.
Lucky Number Two, Three
The second and third innings of the game have been particularly good to the Pack, as State has outscored its opponents by a considerable margin in both innings.
The Wolfpack has scored 16 runs in the second frame while limiting its opponents to just six runs and has plated 23 runs in the third inning while holding opponents to 11 runs, the largest run differential of any inning.
Raising The Bar
For the second time this season, senior Emily Weiman broke the program record for most strikeouts in a single game, this time she broke her own mark. The Pasadena. Md., native set a school record earlier this season with 17 strikeouts in a seven-inning game against Eastern Kentucky.
Versus Lipscomb last Friday, Weiman collected 18 strikeouts in an eight-inning game to hold the record for most strikeouts in an extra inning game as well as a seven-inning game.
13 & Counting
Senior shortstop Renada Davis has reached base safely in 13 consecutive games dating back to the Dayton game on Feb. 20. During that span, the Tomball, Texas, native has collected 12 hits, three home runs, scored seven runs, been issued seven walks and been hit-by-pitch once.
Scouting UNCG
UNCG has compiled a 12-7 record to this point in the season, but will play at UNC-Chapel Hill on Tuesday prior to its matchup with NC State on Wednesday. In the Spartans last outing, they dropped a 6-2 decision against Elon at home.
Nicole Thomas leads the Spartans at the plate with a .424 batting average, while Danielle Vega has a team-best 26 hits to go along with a .406 clip at the dish. As a team, UNCG has a batting average of .352 while its opponents are hitting .307.
In the circle, Alicia Bazonski has compiled a record of 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA. The Spartans have a team ERA of 4.24, while opponents have an ERA of 5.89.
