For the fourth time in four seasons under Mark Gottfried, the NC State men's basketball team will compete in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
The Wolfpack (20-13) will be the No. 8 Seed in the East Region. The Pack will play LSU (22-10). The Pack-Tigers matchup will be the second of the Thursday night session. Villanova and Lafayette will tip at 6:50 p.m., and NC State-LSU will have an approximate tip time of 9:20 p.m. and will be broadcast on TBS.
Wolfpack senior guard Ralston Turner is certainly familiar with the Tigers. Turner, NC State's second-leading scorer, played two seasons for LSU before transferring to NC State. It will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools.
NC State and LSU share three common opponents. LSU lost to Clemson in the Virgin Islands in November, while the Pack split with Clemson. LSU split with Tennessee, a team the Pack beat 83-72 in December. LSU, however, did defeat West Virginia, a team that defeated the Wolfpack in December in Madison Square Garden.
NC State will be making its 26th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wolfpack owns a 35-24 all-time record in the Big Dance, highlighted by national titles in 1974 and 1983. Gottfried took his first Wolfpack team to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2012 and also won a first round game over Xavier in Dayton last season.
