RALEIGH, N.C. - The 25th-ranked NC State softball team earned a 7-0 win against Binghamton Saturday evening at Dail Stadium. It was the third shutout win of the season for the Wolfpack and marked the first combined shutout by two different pitchers this season.
The Wolfpack improves to 13-8 on the season, while Binghamton falls to 8-9 on the year.
Quick HIts
- NC State plated a run in its first plate appearance of the night, as junior Lana Van Dyken scored from third base on a fielder's choice by classmate Maggie Hawkins to make it 1-0 in favor of the Wolfpack.
- The Pack added four runs to its total in the bottom of the third following three walks, a hit and an error by Binghamton. Freshman Meredith Burroughs drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded to score sophomore Molly Martin from third base, after she pinch-ran for Hutchison.
- Sophomore Hannah Yeager reached on an error by the Binghamton third baseman and the miscue allowed classmate Tyler Ross and Hawkins to score extending the lead to 4-0.
- A sacrifice fly by freshman Alyssa Compton plated the final run of the inning, as Burroughs scampered home from third base to make the score, 5-0.
- In the fourth inning, the Wolfpack added two runs to its total to extend the advantage to 7-0. After Van Dyken started the frame with a walk, Ross ripped a triple to left center scoring Van Dyken from first base. Hawkins followed with a single up the middle, allowing Ross to score on the play.
In the Pitcher's Circle
- Sophomore Courtney Mirabella started the contest and earned the win in the circle after tossing four innings and not allowing a hit. She struck out seven batters, walked two and only allowed one ball to be hit out of the infield, which resulted in a flyout to shallow canter field.
- Emily Weiman relieved her in the fifth and retired the first six batters she faced. The senior recorded six of the nine outs she was responsible for by strikeout.
Inside the Box Score
- Senior Renada Davis, Hawkins and Yeager led the Pack at plate with two hits each. Hutchison, Ross and Tharrington had one hit apiece in the contest.
On Deck
