BALTIMORE, Md.- After a solid performance in NC State's first quad meet of the season on Jan. 31, Michaela Woodford has been named Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week in week four of competition, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
This marks the second consecutive week that a gymnast has earned a weekly honor, as Brittni Watkins was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week and Lane Jarred was named EAGL Specialist of the Week in week three of competition.
Woodford, a junior from Gainesville, Fla., earned three top-three finishes in the Wolfpack's recent meet. She won the all-around competition with a score of 39.175, finished second on beam with a 9.850 and tied for third with Jarred on floor with a score of 9.825. Her all-around and beam scores marked career highs, as she also scored a 9.800 on vault and 9.700 on bars in Saturday's meet.
Her beam average in the 2014-15 season (9.850) puts Woodford at No. 6 in the EAGL conference rankings and 11th in the southeast regional rankings.
NC State will return to action when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Feb. 6 to face EAGL foe Pittsburgh. Competition is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
