GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kaitlyn Kearney of the NC State women's volleyball team has been named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, announced Wednesday by the conference office.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career. The selection is also based on a student-athlete's athletic performance, as well as national and conference accolades.
The Frisco, Texas, native is in the First Year College program at NC State and has not decided on a major. She was named to the Dean's List in the fall of 2014 with a semester GPA of 3.524 and has a cumulative GPA of 3.567.
Not only does Kearney excel in the classroom, but also on the court as she was selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team in December. The rookie led the team in kills (277), blocks (118) and points scored with 360.5 during the 2014 season. Her 277 kills tie as the most by an ACC freshman this season and are the most by a Wolfpack freshman since 2007. Kearney's 118 blocks are the most by an NC State freshman since 1994 and second most by an ACC rookie in 2014.
Kearney is just one of four freshmen represented on the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team.
