Gymnastics to Hold Beauty and the Beast Meet Saturday Evening

RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State gymnastics team will return to Reynolds Coliseum Saturday evening as it hosts its second Beauty and the Beast meet.
Competition is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for 17 and under and NC State students.
The gymnastics team will host George Washington and William and Mary in a tri-meet, while the wrestling squad will host nationally-ranked ACC foe Pittsburgh at the same time.
This gymnastics meet will also be recognized as team’s Breast Cancer Awareness meet. In honor of this tradition, pink #STATEment bracelets and pink pom-poms will be given out FREE to fans.
Additional promotions included in the evening’s production are: Belle from Beauty and the Beast will be available for pictures with fans from 6:30-9 p.m., and a Kid’s Corner coloring area will be set up during the event for kids as well.

“We’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to hold this event. It gives wrestling fans a chance to see something different with gymnastics and vice versa with our fans, which I think is a positive. Last Time Out
The team earned its second-straight road win of the season as it defeated EAGL foe Pittsburgh on Feb. 6. The Wolfpack earned a score of 195.075 while the Panthers posted a 194.150.
Junior Michaela Woodford won the all-around competition and beam, while placing second on vault.
Senior Lane Jarred, junior Brittni Watkins and freshman Nicole Wild each notched a second-place finish in their respective events. Jarred earned a 9.850 on floor, while Watkins earned 9.850 on bars and Wild posted a 9.800 on beam.
Wolfpack in the Rankings
Watkins remains in the top 25 national polls on vault, checking in at No. 23 with a scoring average of 9.925. Her average ranks first in the conference standings and fourth in the regional polls.
Her all-around average of 39.175 places Watkins at the top of the conference and fourth among the regional competition, while her 9.825 average on bars puts her at No. 2 among EAGL competitors and fourth in the region.
Behind Watkins on bars is Amanda Fillard with a 9.800 average, the No. 4 mark among the conference competition.
Woodford’s beam average of 9.775 ranks No. 4 among the EAGL competition, while Jarred’s average of 9.760 puts her behind Woodford at No. 5.
Scouting George Washington
George Washington will travel to Raleigh with a perfect 11-0 (2-0 EAGL) record on the season.
The squad has five gymnastics listed in the top five among the EAGL conference in each event. Cami Drouin-Allaire and Sarah Mermelstein rank third on vault and beam, respectively, while Jillian Winstanley is listed at No. 3 on bars and the all-around competition.
Chelsea Raineri is the top-ranked opponent in the conference on floor with a 9.850 average.
In its last time out, the Colonials defeated UC Davis on the road 195.725-194.250. The team set a new vault record of 49.275, as well as a season-high mark of 49.075 on beam.
Scouting William and Mary
Heading into Saturday, the Tribe holds a 2-6 (1-5 ECAC) record on the season, recently facing UNC-Chapel Hill on Feb. 7. William and Mary posted its second-best score of the season with a 192.800, while the Tar Heels earned a team total of 194.425.
Larson Lasek and Brittany Stover each claimed an event title, as Lasek tied on beam with a season high 9.750 and Stover won vault with a score of 9.875.
