NEW ORLEANS – The NC State men's cross country team jumped up two spots to No. 10 in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll, and the women remained No. 8. This is the first time this season that both teams hold top 10 rankings.
The Climb:
Throughout the course of the season, the men's team has moved up 20 spots in the poll. The team made big jumps after each race, including a 10-place rise after finishing second at the Notre Dame Invite. To break into the top-10, the men bested then-ranked No. 8 Virginia by 20 points at the ACC Championships.
The women's team debuted at No. 17 in the preseason and has risen steadily throughout the year. The biggest jump came after a fourth-place finish at the Wisconsin Invitational. At ACCs, the women went toe-to-toe with then-ranked No. 7 Virginia. The Cavilers edged the Pack by just four points and moved up to No. 6 in the country.
Up Next:
The Wolfpack returns to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. for the Three Stripe Invite Saturday. The meet gives the team another chance to test its depth and gain racing experience.
NCAA competition starts Nov. 13 with the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlottesville, Va. The top two teams from each region automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. In regional rankings, the Pack has been a mainstay, holding a top-two spot for the majority of the season.
