Porter Garners ACC Freshman of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Becky Porter of the NC State volleyball team has been named ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.

The Charlotte, N.C., native provided a spark for the Wolfpack when she was inserted into Friday night's match against Notre Dame. Porter helped the Pack overcome a 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 victory.

She dished out a match-high 42 assists against the Fighting Irish and also contributed six digs and two blocks. Her stellar play on Friday helped her earn the start against No. 23 Louisville.

In that contest, Porter handed out 31 assists and tallied nine digs, narrowly missing the first double-double performance of her young career.

For the weekend, she averaged 10.43 assists per set and also pitched in defensively with 2.14 digs per set.

Porter is the second Wolfpack freshman to be named ACC Freshman of the Week, as Blayke Hranicka also claimed the honor on Sept. 21.

NC State will return to action Friday, Nov. 6, when it travels north to Boston College. First serve against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
