2016 Competition Schedule
RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State gymnastics team has released its 2016 competition schedule, as announced by head coach Mark Stevenson.
Despite the Reynolds Coliseum renovation, the schedule features a handful of chances for local fans to watch the Pack compete. The team will host one meet at Broughton High School as well as travel to back-to-back meets at UNC-Chapel Hill.
"Obviously with the renovation of Reynolds Coliseum, we will be on the road for the majority of the season with the exception of the one meet that we will host at Broughton to honor our four seniors," said associate head coach Colleen Johnson. "We want them to have this opportunity because they all deserve it, and want to bring a lot of people out to help us honor them as well as the rest of our team."
"Being on the road for us is really exciting, and have put together a really competitive schedule. We will see LSU, a strong SEC team, and Nebraska, who was in the Super Six last year at NCAAs, so we'll see some good competition but I think being on the road will give our team a lot of exposure."
The Pack will open its season on Jan. 9 at Penn State, followed by a trip to Las Vegas where the team will face LSU on Jan. 14.
On Jan. 24 and 29 NC State will match up with Illinois-Chicago and Iowa State, respectively, then return to North Carolina for its back-to-back meets with EAGL rival UNC-Chapel Hill on Feb. 6 and 12.
Along with the Wolfpack, the Tar Heels will host Pittsburgh and Bowling Green on Feb. 6 for NC State's first quad meet of the season, and on the 12th UNC-CH will host William and Mary.
On Feb. 21 the Pack will face Nebraska, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and host Iowa State for a second time on the season. The team will visit conference opponents Towson and George Washington along with William and Mary on Feb. 26.
"We're traveling all over the country this season, which gives our broad fan base several opportunities to watch us compete. We tend to do well on the road because our team as a whole is a really close group," Johnson added. "During away meets we're always very focused and make it a point to encourage each other when we're in competition."
"We have a really strong team this year and I believe that we will definitely surprise some people, which we're excited about."
NC State will then travel to George Washington on March 4 for another conference match up with the Colonials, then return to Raleigh for its final meet of the regular season when it hosts Ball State on March 12.
The Pack will then prep for the EAGL Championships at Pittsburgh on March 19.
Postseason competition gets underway the first weekend in April, as the Pack looks to make its 14th-straight appearance at the NCAA Regional Championship. The NCAA Championship will be held April 15-17 in Fort Worth, Texas.
