Five Individuals Ranked Among top-20
Complete FloWrestling Rankings
RALEIGH, N.C. - With a little more then a month before the beginning of the 2015-16 wrestling season, the preseason rankings from various publications are starting to come out. This week, FloWrestling released both its team and individual rankings.
As a team, the Wolfpack starts its season ranked No. 9 nationally. Last season marked one of the top seasons in NC State history, as the Pack's 16th place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships was the highest team finish since 1993.
In addition to the team ranking, five individuals are ranked among the top-20 in their respective weight classes:
• So. Kevin Jack (@jack_jack123) #4 at 141 pounds
Jack earned All-American honors at 141 pounds with a fifth place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. He finished with a 31-9 record, setting a new NC State record for most wins by a freshman.
• R-Sr. Tommy Gantt (@TGizzle157) #8 at 157 pounds
Gantt redshirted last season, competing in five open tournaments and going 23-1. Last time he was in an NC State singlet, he placed ninth at 157 pounds at the 2014 NCAA Championships, a win away from All-American status.
• Jr. Max Rohskopf (@MaxxingOut) #10 at 165 pounds
Rohskopf had a breakthrough season last year, as he was an NCAA Qualifier at 165 pounds. He finished last year with a record of 25-16, and at one point won 18 of 21 matches.
• Jr. Pete Renda (@Peteza_Renda) #18 at 184 pounds
Renda is moving up from 174 pounds to 184 pounds for his junior season. In each of his first two years at NC State he was an NCAA Qualifier at 174 pounds, and last year he went 2-2 at the NCAAs.
• R-Sr. Nick Gwiazdowski (@NGWIZZZ) #1 at 285 pounds
The reigning back-to-back NCAA Champion at 285 pounds, Gwiazdowski enters 2015-16 with an NCAA-best 55 match winning streak after finishing a perfect 35-0 last season. A two-time ACC Wrestler of the Year, he was also NC State's H.C. Kennett Award Winner last year, presented annually to NC State's top student-athlete.
• Gwiazdowski #2 in pound-for-pound rankings
Among all collegiate wrestlers, FloWrestling ranks Gwiazdowski No. 2 nationally, only behind fellow two-time defending champion Alex Dieringer (165) of Oklahoma State.
Fans can get their first glimpse of the Pack tomorrow from 8 am-3 pm as NC State will hold an outdoor demo in the Brickyard - the annual Brickyard Bash. The first competition of the year will be at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals on November 15.
