RALEIGH, N.C. – Twenty-one members of Wolfpack women's sports participated in a 90-minute self-defense class on Sunday evening. This was the second self-defense class for female athletes in as many years organized by Student-Athlete Enhancement and Leadership.
George 'The Crobar' Crofott, head instructor at East Coast Boxing instructed the Wolfpack women in Sunday's class. Crofott, a third degree black belt instructor with 15 years of competitive martial arts and fighting experience, enjoys being able to educate individuals on something he finds so second nature.
"I try to give back as much as a I can. It amazes me how many people don't know how capable they are of defending themselves."
Pack athletes were educated on a series of basic self-defense techniques utilizing practical applications of daily items. The women were asked to bring an item they would typically carry on a day-to-day basis. Crofott gave examples of how to use items such as cell phones, jewelry and even selfie sticks as a defense weapon during an attack.
Crofott also guided the athletes through punch and knee techniques, basic choke and grab escape methods and educated the group on strike points to generate a more effective defense.
