RALEIGH, N.C. - A pair of NC State wrestlers will get the Wolfpack's 2015-16 campaign underway this weekend, as junior eighth-ranked Max Rohskopf and redshirt-sophomore Chad Pyke will both be wrestling at the NCWA All-Star Classic Sunday in Atlanta.
For the second straight season, NC State has a wrestler competing in the Main Event matches as Rohskopf follows in the footsteps of Nick Gwiazdowski who wrestled last year.
Rohskopf was a 2015 NCAA Qualifier, earning an at-large bid. He went 25-16 last year - 23-16 at 165 pounds and 2-0 at 174, including 14-8 in duals. He went 1-2 at the NCAA Championships, defeating the 16th seed in the first round 3-0, and then falling to #1 and #2 overall seeds. He starts the season ranked #8 nationally by FloWrestling.com.
Rohskopf will wrestle Oklahoma redshirt junior Clark Glass. Glass was a 2015 NCAA Championships qualifier at 165 pounds and went 2-2 in the tournament, and went 20-15 last year.
Announced back on Oct. 19, Pyke will be taking part as a 'Local Feature'.
Pyke was the Pack's starter at 157 pounds last year. He finished with a record of 13-17, including 7-11 in duals, and brought home a 11-3 major decision over the No. 10 wrestler in the dual at Missouri. While competing for Woodward Academy, Pyke finished his high school career 329-19, establishing a new national record for most career wins and was the 2013 and 2012 Georgia state champion.
Pyke will wrestle University of Tennessee at Chattanooga redshirt-freshman Kamaal Shakur, who in high school placed fourth and was an All-American at USA Wrestling's Folkstyle Nationals.
Both matches are exhibitions, and will not count towards season records.
The event will be aired live on ESPNU. For more information on the NWCA All-Star Classic, visit www.theallstarclassic.com.
