NC State Rifle Leaps Into Top 10 of CRCA Poll

Record-breaking weekend powers NC State into top 10
MURRAY, Ky. – Following a record-breaking weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy, the NC State rifle team has jumped seven spots in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) polls to No. 10, announced Monday by the organization.

Last week, the Wolfpack was ranked No. 17 but the strong performance at Navy powered the squad to a top-10 listing.

The Wolfpack (7-0, 1-0 GARC) broke program records in air rifle, smallbore and total team score en route to a #STATEment win at Navy on Saturday. NC State finished with a team score of 4654 to defeat the Midshipmen, who scored a 4620, in a Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) match by 34 points.

State's team score bested the previous school record of 4633 by 21. In the air rifle competition, the Wolfpack set a program best 2350, eclipsing the previous mark of 2336 by 14.

The smallbore competition saw NC State top its best prior mark by two at 2304.

Individually, junior Lucas Kozeniesky also set a school record with a score of 594 in air rifle, besting the previous mark of 590 he set last season. He also notched a program-best aggregate score of 1178.

Collectively, 15 personal best were fired at Saturday's match by Wolfpack shooters.

NC State returns to action Saturday, Oct. 31, when it travels for Charleston, S.C., to take on Nebraska and compete in the third South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match.
