Softball Sweeps Home Doubleheader Against Longwood

Wolfpack earns two wins against the Lancers at Dail Stadium
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team remained undefeated in its fall schedule on Saturday with a pair of wins against Longwood at Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack won game one, 7-1, and earned a 9-2 victory in game two.
The Pack is now 6-0 during the fall season with two wins each against Campbell, Pitt Community College and Longwood.
Game One Highlights
- Longwood took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but NC State responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-1 advantage. The Wolfpack tacked on two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.
- Tyler Ross, a junior from Cameron, N.C., was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in (RBI) and two runs scored. Senior Lana Van Dyken was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Juniors Morgan Medford and Hannah Yeager had one hit apiece in the contest.
- In the pitching circle, freshman Brittany Nimmo earned the start and pitched the first five innings to collect the win. She allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.
- Sophomore Harli Hubbard came on to pitch the sixth and retired the side in order. Junior Courtney Mirabella pitched the final inning to secure the win for the Wolfpack.
Game Two Highlights
- NC State used another big inning in game two of the doubleheader to gain control of the game. The Wolfpack plated four runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 5-2.
- Junior Hanna Sommer put the Pack on the scoreboard in the first inning with a single to center field, scoring senior Lana Van Dyken who singled to start the game.
- Doubles by junior Molly Hutchison and sophomore Meredith Burroughs, along with a single from Ross powered the four-run third inning.
- Hutchison hit a two-run homer in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-2 and Ross smacked a two-run shot in the sixth to give the Wolfpack a 9-2 advantage.
- Mirabella started the second game in the circle and pitched the first five innings before being relieved by Hubbard, who retired all three batters she faced in the sixth. Nimmo came on to pitch the seventh and close out the win.
- Mirabella had six strikeouts and allowed two earned runs, while Hubbard and Nimmo each had one strikeout.
On Deck
The Wolfpack will conclude its fall slate on Friday, Oct. 24, when the Elon Phoenix visit Dail Stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m.
