Pack Continues Play at ITA Regional

Dempster and Horton advance to doubles round of 16.

CARY, N.C., - NC State continued play at the ITA Carolina Regional. Nick Horton advanced to the round of 16 singles main draw, while the 41st-ranked duo of Horton and Ian Dempster made their way to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw.
Singles Round of 32:
The Wolfpack split its pair of main draw singles matches. Nick Horton defeated Duke's TJ Pura. Horton and Pura were unable to break each other's serve in the first set, as it went into a tiebreak. The Australian dominated in the tiebreak and won the opening set 7-6 (2). In the final set, Horton eased past Pura to win 6-3.
In the other main-draw match, Simon Norenius fell to South Carolina's Thomas Mayronne in straight sets.
Singles Round of 32 Consolation:
Shoti Meparidze advanced to the Round of 16 consolation singles, defeating NC Central's Gabriel Cucalon, 6-2, 6-2. The win is Meparidze's fourth of the fall season.
Doubles Round of 64:
Norenius and Meparidze dropped the first set on their debut, and mounted a strong comeback attempt in the second, but fell short, 6-2, 7-6(2).
On the other half of the bracket, the tournament's No. 2 doubles seed of Dempster and Horton rolled past Elon's Robert Lindgren and Mario Paccini, 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles Round of 32:
In their second match of the day, Dempster and Horton knocked off Benjamin Kaszas and Maximilian Schollof Gardner Web, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the tournament's round of 16.
Doubles Round of 32 Consolation:
Meparidze and Norenius won their final doubles match of the tournament, defeating Juan Estavarena and Charlie Ghriskey from College of Charleston in tight match, 4-6, 6-7(7), 1-0(7).
What's On the Line?
The singles and doubles champions from the tournament will earn an automatic spot in the 2015 USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships, which will be played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 6-9.
