RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State head women’s volleyball coach Bryan Bunn announced on Tuesday the addition of setter Becky Porter to the program for the 2015 season.
The Charlotte, N.C., native enjoyed a very successful senior season at Providence High School culminating with her being selected to the 2014 High School Under Armour All-America Third Team. In addition, Porter also garnered South Meck 8 Conference Player of the Year honors and was tabbed the MVP of her high school team.
“Becky will bring a lot of good things to our setter position next year,” said Bunn. “She’s a late developer in that she has only been setting for two years, but she has shown a tremendous work ethic and great potential.”
At 6’1”, Porter dished out 833 assists, collected 255 digs, swatted 114 kills and also had 63 blocks and 52 service aces during her final year at Providence High School. She led her high school team to a 26-3 record and an NCSHAA 4A State Championship runner-up finish. Porter is a two-time All-South Meck 8 Conference selection, earning the accolade as a senior and junior.
She was named to the 2014 Mizuno SPVB National Junior Classic All-Tournament Team and was also named MVP of the 2013 Virginia Tech Super Regional, collecting all-tournament honors in the process.
Porter joins Sarah Konchan as another member of the 2015 recruiting class slated to join the program this summer.
