RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State track and field team returns to competition on Friday, Jan. 30 for the Hilton Garden Invitational. The two-day meet will feature competition from Wake Forest, UNC-Chapel Hill and numerous schools from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia.
Camel City Elite Races:
The meet will include Camel City Elite Races, which feature professional and collegiate athletes. Graham Crawford, Kenyetta Iyevbele, Jacob Thomson, Joanna Thompson and Samantha George will compete against strong collegiate competition as well as athletes sponsored by Nike, Adidas, New Balance and others.
These races will feature a fast pace and great competition for NC State's student athletes.
Geiger's Expectations:
"It is a training week for many of the sprinters and jumpers, so we are only putting a few in the sprinting and jumping events. For the middle distance runners, we are running a number of athletes from the 800m to 3,000m events. This is only their second competition on their season. The goal is not different than it has been."
"In the Camel City Elite portion of the competition, there are a number of professional athletes. It will give our athletes a chance to not only compete against college athletes but also professionals. Those races will be set up to run fast, so competition will be at a high level."
Mid-Distance:
Many of the mid-distance runners will be competing in their main events for the first time this season. After last week's meet, which featured season and career debuts for many athletes, the distance runners will look to earn many qualifying marks for ACC Championships.
Last Time Out:
The Wolfpack track and field team wrapped up another successful weekend as the team earned seven more qualifying marks for ACC Indoor Championships.
Many of the Pack jumpers went to Clemson, S.C., where they earned solid marks, while the rest of the team competed at the Hokie Invite. Alexis Perry beat her indoor collegiate best in the long jump for the second-straight week while Jonathan Addison earned a qualifying mark in the high jump
Highlighting the meet at Virginia Tech was Nicole Chavis with her fifth-straight first-place finish in the weight throw and freshmen Ian Milder, Thomson, Megan Rempel, Bella Smith and Nick Link who finished in the top-15 of their respective events in their collegiate debuts for NC State.
