COLUMBIA, MO. - Continuing its Midwest road trip after its 24-10 win at Oklahoma Friday night, the NC State wrestling team came up short in its bid for a second straight road win falling at #3 Missouri, 29-10, Sunday afternoon.
The Pack was forced to forfeit the first bout of the day at 133 pounds, and the Tigers kept the lead the entire dual after gaining those six points.
Missouri claimed the first three bouts overall and took a 13-0 lead, but NC State fought back and narrowed the gap to 13-7 at the halfway point - the six point difference thanks to the 133 forfeit.
Chad Pyke claimed the Pack's first win of the day, as he dominated #10 Joey Lavalle with an 11-3 major decision at 157 pounds. The Pack's #15 Max Rohskopf then scored a takedown with only five seconds left and won his bout 5-3 at 165.
The Tigers then pulled off three straight wins, a decision at 174, major decision at 184 and pin at 197, to secure the dual with a 26-7 lead.
At 285 pounds, #2 Nick Gwiazdowski won his second bout over a ranked foe this weekend when he downed #13 Devin Mellon 5-2. With the win, Gwiazdowski tied the school record with his 41st straight win - the 41 straight wins are tied for the current national lead.
Missouri remains only one of four undefeated teams nationally, increasing its record to 15-0 in duals this year.
Up Next: The Pack returns to home action on Saturday, Jan. 24 as the Pack will host Kent State at 3 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. NC State will honor 1988 national champion Scott Turner, and the dual also serves as the Pack's alumni weekend.
