Wolfpack Volleyball Shuts Down Rockets, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s volleyball team captured its first sweep of the 2014 season, as the Wolfpack claimed a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) victory over Toledo Saturday afternoon inside Reynolds Coliseum.
With the win, NC State improves to 4-1 on the season, while Toledo falls to 0-5.
Worth Noting
- State started strong in the first set by winning five of the first seven points and cruising to take the frame, 25-15. Morgan Cormier paced the squad with six kills in the set on a .667 hitting percentage. State hit .429 as a team and limited the Rockets to a .114 hitting percentage.
- The Wolfpack continued its strong performance in the second set, as the squad won the frame, 25-18. After the Pack and Rockets were tied at 13-all, State reeled off 12 of the next 17 points to win the set. NC State limited Toledo to a -.0.36 hitting percentage, while hitting .367 as a team.
- NC State never trailed en route to a 25-17 third set win, as Alesha Wilson led the team with three kills in the frame.
Key Performers
- Wilson paced the offensive attack with nine kills, while Perry Ramsey, Morgan Cormier and Dariyan Hopper each had seven. Overall, State hit a season-high .357 for the match and limited Toledo to a .066 hitting percentage.
- Sophomore Maggie Speaks continued her phenomenal start to the season, as she recorded 32 assists, six digs, five kills and three blocks.
- On the defensive side, Rachel Eppley had eight digs and Alston Kearns notched seven.

The Pack will conclude play in the 2014 Courtyard Midtown Classic when it takes on UCONN later this evening inside Reynolds Coliseum. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
